An important location in London, a short distance west of St James's, inspired the creation of Apsley in 2016. Arthur Wellesley was the first Duke of Wellington, victor at the Battle of Waterloo and former Prime Minister. Apsley was created in his honour, and takes its name from his neoclassical home at Apsley House in Hyde Park Corner. Rumour has it that if someone sent a letter to its historic address of 'Apsley House, 1 London', it would still arrive. In the 1700s and 1800s, this house was the 'first' home after the Knightsbridge toll gates on arrival from the countryside, making it the starting home of the capital, hence the address.
